Microbiome and Hygiene Intern

We have an opportunity for a Summer Intern join the R&D team based in San Diego, CA. The Summer Intern in Microbiome and Hygiene will complete a wide variety of activities to support our research projects supporting development of fragrances with active benefits. Firmenich provides unique learning opportunities for interns to manage independent projects with guidance from our research scientists and will report their findings at the conclusion of their 3-month term.



Internship to begin first week of June and goes through to the last week of August.  

The working hours are Monday – Friday (40 hours per week) 


Key Responsibilities:

The Microbiology and Hygiene intern will distribute their time to learn several functions:

  • Independently perform chemical screening of Firmenich ingredients for the discovery of potential cosmetic benefits.
  • Manages Firmenich ingredient library organization and consolidate screening information.
  • Participate in data interpretation, supporting research scientists with numerical and graphical material.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Pursuing a BS degree in Life Sciences preferred, including Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering or related science(s)
  • Basic lab skills i.e. pipetting, aseptic technique, media/buffer preparation, serial dilution
  • Demonstrates capabilities in experimental design, technology development, and critical thinking
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office; ability to learn internal software programs.
  • Candidates with additional programming skills with be prioritized
  • Ideal candidate will be eager, energetic, reliable and self-motivated and ability to work independently.
