Sr. Patent Counsel- Princeton, NJ

 

 

We have an immediate opportunity for a Patent Attorney to join the Firmenich Legal team based in Princeton, NJ.   This position reports to the global Head of IP and will collaborate within a team of European and US Patent Attorneys to implement the group IP strategy and contribute in building a high performing team and function.

 

Key Responsibilities:

As part of IP group strategy implementation:

  • Act as an advisor for IP matters relating to open innovation / external partnerships
  • Run risk assessments and mitigation opportunities in the context of partnerships, including due diligence and strengthening IP protection
  • Prepare freedom to operate opinions; Draft or coordinate drafting of patent applications
  • Work in close collaboration with commercial lawyers in the North American Region to support R&D, and business partners in the preparation of IP agreements; Negotiate IP provisions in contracts
  • Run patent compétitive intelligence analyses ;
  • Manage external counsels in the context of IP litigations

 

As part of building a high performing team & function:

  • Lead by example in execution according to internal processes and best practices
  • Show rigor and discipline in document management and sharing information across team
  • Drive projects in relation with continuous improvements and more efficiency within the function / team
  • Be an active team member and subject matter experts in cross-divisional project to build a high performing function
  • Drive a culture of IP across the organization

 

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD in Chemistry, chemical engineering or related field
  • Qualified as a US Patent Attorney, at least 10 years’ experience in an in-house IP department
  • Experience in IP transactional matters, including drafting and negotiating IP provisions in contracts, JDA, Licensing, MTA
  • Experience in due diligence and management of full patent life cycle
  • Experience in Freedom to operate assessment
