Director, Health Safety & Environmental

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide HSE leadership and ongoing support to our 4 NJ/NYC sites
  • Lead HSE regional network, contribute to and execute the regional strategy in alignment with Global HSE strategy, be an active member of Global HSE Network
  • Advise and/or represent sites management in all matters concerning compliance with federal, state and local regulations
  • Be a well-rounded HS&E solution partner in protecting our people, the environment, and our assets to support sustainable business growth by building effective relationship, coaching, influencing and supporting stakeholders at all levels within the organization to strengthen HSE culture.
  • Ensure the local HSE management system is effectively designed, implemented, and controlled and meets Firmenich standards, ISO standards, and all relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the site operations and detailed processes and ensure key risks are well-understood and mitigated through the site Management System and action plans.  Ensure a robust but efficient risk-based HSE audit program is in place.
  • Co-own with relevant stakeholders the site HSE continuous improvement plan considering Firmenich HSE global Strategy, HSE global management Principles & Codes, new business requirements, new/updated regulations, employees’ input, data analysis and by providing technical and administrative direction on HS&E matters at the site. 
  • Facilitate and support line management through investigation of all injuries, illnesses and incidents, and ensure outputs are used to enhance the management system.
  • Manage and support the professional development of HSE direct reports and train the trainers to ensure proper ownership at line management level

  • High proficiency with standard office programs such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.  Ability to manipulate, analyze, and summarize data to provide key insights and develop strategic and tactical plans.
  • Capable of and comfortable with working in a lab and manufacturing environment.
  • Literate with root cause analysis and Risk Assessments
  • REQUIRED: Post Graduate qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field with 10+ years of experience in HS&E in an organization recognized as having a world class HSE performance.  Thorough knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NJDEP, DEA, NFPA regulations and experience working with regulatory agencies. Industry certifications such as ASP, CSP, CHMM, CIH and Process Safety knowledge a plus. Experience in chemical industry preferred.
