Dir. Consumer Insights Global Beverage- Princeton,

As a key leader within Human Insights (HI), the successful candidate will lead the Consumer & Sensory Insights (CSI) platform for Firmenich’s global Beverage business.  This role will identify powerful insights that help grow the beverage business.  Candidate will be the go-to Consumer Insights expert for category-specific discussions with senior internal stakeholders and external clients, and will ensure Firmenich obtains a competitive edge in the beverage category through superior understanding of consumers and markets.   Candidate will help develop a Human-centric approach the category by taking a broad holistic view of behavior, needs and preferences as they pertain to drinking occasions, motivations, choices and needs.


Key Responsibilities:

This position has global strategic & operational responsibility for all global research programs in the Beverage category.  Position will leverage Firmenich tools and capabilities to drive innovation and commercial success.



•    Work with the Beverage Strategic Busines Unit (SBU) team to design, develop and implement key global strategic Consumer Sensory Insights programs to drive business objectives.
•    Synthesize global category consumer and market knowledge to develop a global category insights strategy for beverages in line with the Beverages SBU category plans, global sales strategy, global innovation strategy & regional business targets.
•    As a key member of the Human Insights team within Firmenich Taste & Beyond, help bring the Human Insights visions to life by discovering unique and powerful insights and socializing them across a highly global business & operational footprint.



•    Lead development and implementation of Beverage category fundamental studies to support global category, sub-category, global innovation and key client needs. Help translate the findings of these studies into beverage business and technology opportunities.
•    Build a network of Beverage category insights experts within the regional CSI teams; efficiently connect these teams, exchange insights and best practices, and coordinate global studies.  Inspire the Regional category CI&S teams to deliver against the segment strategy and objectives, while at the same time insuring those studies align and meet regional needs.
•    Develop and ensure use of best practices globally and implementation of Consumer Insights tools and methods to support Beverage category needs.
•    Integrate and synthesize a wide array of consumer, sensory and market data at scale – lay foundations for key predictive models and machine learning approaches within the beverage category and related flavor and ingredient spaces.   Extract insights and powerful stories that inspire innovation.
•    Together with the SBU Beverage global leader, own and manage the global Beverage Insights spend and budget to ensure balanced investment between strategic global view and critical local market projects across the beverage categories and innovation areas. 
•    Foster a collaborative team environment within Global Innovation & Creation team, Regional CI teams and Global Beverages Strategic Business Unit that supports sharing of insights & techniques, quality research and storytelling, strategic thinking and pragmatic application of insights to serve business needs.
•    Together with the Global Head of Consumer Insights & Sensory, develop a team of CSI researchers in the regions to become category experts and ambassadors, through dotted line reporting lines, research program leadership, coaching/mentoring, and training of best practices within the category.



•    Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in Sensory Science, Consumer Research, Market Research, OR a related set of academic backgrounds combining physical sciences and psychology/sociology.
•    10+ years of experience in relevant Consumer Insights leadership roles in an industrial setting, either F&F or CPG.
•    Significant experience (5+ years) in an Insights role specifically within food or beverage category is strongly preferred; this position has a particular focus in the Beverage category, so experience in this category is preferred.
•    Global research experience and career perspective is essential.
•    Deep bench strength in Consumer Research methodologies and approaches across the full spectrum from qualitative, to quantitative, to digital.
