Process Safety Engineer - Newark, NJ

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare Pre-Conceptual, Basic & Detailed Process Engineering design packages for capital projects.
  • Develop process design specifications for specific equipment and piping requirements
  • Provide input into the evaluation of new equipment and instrumentation capable of providing improved operation efficiency and reduced downtime.
  • Lead the site PSM team and coordinate other team members' PSM activities, self-assessments and compliance audits.
  • Manage the site PHA program, including: schedule reviews, coordinate teams,
  • Provide process safety expertise on new plant projects in such areas as inherently safer designs, controls & interlocks, fire & building codes, etc.
  • Manage the site pressure relief system design program. Design or coordinate design of new or modified relief systems, including defining upset scenarios.
  • Facilitate the Pre-Startup Safety Review and ensure necessary action items are completed in a timely manner.



  • BS degree Chemical Engineering.
  • 7 - 10 years’ experience of demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in executing engineering front end process design for capital projects, preferably in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with process engineering and equipment design
  • Knowledge and experience in Process Safety Management
