Automation Engineer, New Ulm, MN

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for assessing the automated control systems within the plant for OEM equipment lifecycle .
  • Responsible for ensuring automated controls comply with all local code requirements including but not limited to OSHA, and NFPA.
  • Responsible for improving equipment availability and reliability through the implementation and maintenance of historian data from control systems.
  • Ensure all control systems code is open source and owned by Firmenich.
  • Work with product industrialization to ensure control systems are able to control equipment within process needs
  • Work with safety to ensure equipment control systems have effective interlocks to prevent conditions that could harm people, assets, and product.
  • Interface with corporate I.S. to ensure plant automation network meets the needs of corporate security and plant needs.
  • Provide technical guidance to plant leadership team(s) on existing and future automation equipment and projects.
  • Participate in plant safety, quality, and continuous improvement teams as needed.
  • Initiate and implement automation related small capital projects that result in improvements as the project manager and or construction manager.
  • Provide input into the selection of new equipment on large capital projects.
  • Support other plants as a technical resource on a limited basis.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Electrical or Chemical. Will consider Associate’s degree with 10 years’ experience.
  • Proven track record of successful automation projects.
  • Ability to create equipment controls URS, and controls functional specification documents using AutoCAD.
  • Ability to effectively supervise as needed.
  • Ability to read and interpret process, electrical, instrumentation drawings from vendors and design engineers.
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines, RCA procedures.
