Scientist - New York, NY

We are seeking an exceptional, objective-oriented post-doctoral chemical senses expert specialized in receptor biology and olfaction to join a dynamic, cutting-edge research program in the chemical senses. You will become part of a multi-disciplinary discovery team in New York City and collaborate with members of the company’s global R&D community to explore chemosensory receptor-driven perception and industrial applications thereof. In particular, we are seeking a motivated candidate with a strong skillset in linking odorant receptor/gustatory receptor/ion-channel pharmacology to behavioral outcomes. Additional expertise in cell-based assay development, high-throughput screening methods and medicinal chemistry approaches is essential. Candidates with a specific background in insect olfaction/ion channel experience are greatly encouraged to apply and will be given preference. Broader experience in olfactory biology, sensory neuroscience and computational data treatment would be an advantage. Applicants must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be comfortable working in a team environment and have a track record of scientific accomplishment.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Lead projects to address fundamental scientific questions in the general area of olfaction with specifics to be discussed during the interview.
•    Foster a problem-solving mindset and devise innovative approaches to problems at hand.
•    Communicate results cross teams and identify potential collaborative synergies.
•    Maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant knowledge and technologies.
•    Continually identify opportunities to improve current procedures, protocols, and systems.
•    Participate in data interpretation and information sharing with the wider research team.
•    Present results at team and department meetings, and at external scientific conferences.
•    Write manuscripts of scientific results and submit for publication in top-rated, peer-reviewed journals, patent applications, and/or internal company reports.

•    Degree in olfactory biology or related chemosensory fields, PhD strongly preferred
•    2+ years of post-doctoral academic or industry research experience.

We value:

•    Proficiency in biochemical, molecular, and/or cellular biology techniques relevant to assay development and implementation.
•    Proficiency in receptor/ion-channel pharmacology and related ligand chemistry.

We offer:

•    The ability to be a part of a highly creative and imaginative team in an incredibly competitive and inspiring industry
•    A fast-paced environment surrounded by some of the biggest talents and brands in the beauty and fragrance industries
•    Learn how to understand consumers and how to meet their needs effectively
