Our Analytical Sciences Department, part of our Science & Research Business Unit in Geneva, is looking for a:
Master student trainee in chemistry
For a 6 months assignment starting ideally as of September 2024.
As part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists you will work on the development of a polymorphism screening process of crystalline organic compounds. In our domain, polymorphs could have different solubility and dissolution rate, which could impact all our production line, therefore it is crucial to understand the crystallization process for reproducibility prior to development and manufacturing.
This will include crystallization experiments with different solvents and under different conditions, as well as the use of orthogonal analytical methods to detect and characterize crystal structures. You will work in close collaboration with scientists from different departments and on different sites of dsm-firmenich.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a polymorphism screening procedure
- Use state-of-the-art analytical methods to support and validate your findings
- Report work progress during project review meetings
- Provide clear documentation of the procedure and techniques used
Pre-requisites
- Only students enrolled at a fully accredited MSc degree program with an internship agreement are welcome to apply
- Only students who are Swiss, European or with a B Permit are welcome to apply
Profile:
- Master student in Solid-State Physics or Chemistry
- Skills in Analytical methods (XRD, NMR, TGA, IR, Raman)
- Ability to search for new methods and approaches
- Theoretical and practical notions in others analytical methods like GC, MS and microscopy would be considered a plus
- Able to take initiatives and work in autonomy
- Curious and enthusiastic
- Fluent in English or French
