Small/ Medium Compounder


Accurately measures and mixes raw material ingredients in accordance with formula and instructions to product batches weighing 0-800 lbs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Retrieves assigned formulas and reviews information for compounding, working on orders with earliest ship date first.
  • Receives batches from automation area, and completes assigned batches in allotted time.
  • Adds raw materials manually or from dispensing racks and/or dosing cluster by weight using scales , ensuring  proper sequence of mixing.
  • Records substitutions, over-pours, etc., ensuring supervisor approval is obtained.
  • Heats batches and materials as needed using necessary using hot plates, etc. , ensuring that the materials are not overheated.
  • Thoroughly mixes batch, ensuring that batch is free of crystals.
  • Keeps equipment and area in proper working condition. Advises Supervisor of any equipment issues.
  • Maintains clean and safe work area, and adheres to safety regulations and procedures, understanding the hazards of handling the various chemicals.
  • Trains new compounders and helps other compounders.
  • Possibly uses various types of powered lift equipment to help with batching process.
  • Uses hand scanners to remove and re-locate materials.
  • Participates in year end inventory.

  • High School diploma or equivalency (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industrial work experience required; chemical compounding experience preferred.
  • Prior fork lift experience.



Language Ability

  • Ability to read standard operating procedures, company policies and procedures, GMP procedures, safety and sanitary procedures and equipment readings.
  • Ability to provide feedback to Supervision in all critical areas such as equipment conditions.
  • Ability to complete written and electronic batch records. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervision and employees.


Math Ability:

  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, measurements and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to conduct or learn conversion of metric to English measure, Density/SPG calculations


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to evaluate results, make recommendations.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to read and execute work instructions as required on batch sheets and other manufacturing documents including M.S.D.S’s.



Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be familiar with operation and use of MS Office., Excel spreadsheets and various application programs, SAP.

  • Ability to handle heavy materials, including drums (lifting requirement to 60 lbs.).
  • Must be clean-shaven (no beard).
  • Must be able to pass the company-subsidized annual physical examination to determine physical fitness for use of a respirator.
  • Must be able to pass the annual respiratory protection training necessary for understanding and skill in the use of the respiratory equipment.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
  • Work on elevated platforms and be able to climb stairs.
  • Noise level is moderate


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Utilize hands to finger, handle, feel, twist, grab, hold; reach with hands and arms; write, utilize keyboard to type (75% to 100%)
  • Ability to walk, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit or crawl; climb stairs as needed at various intervals throughout shift (50%- 75).
  • Frequently move, lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs.
  •  Able to handle over 50 lbs. on a frequent basis. (50% to 74%)
  • Frequently move 55-gallon drums (approx. 400 lbs.) by hand from pallet to scale.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus, to read documents, computer screens, and other communications (100%).
  • Must be able to communicate with management, co-workers and other departments. (75% to 100%)
